Meaning of Kiddush Cup
A traditional kiddush cup is made of gold or silver and is beautifully decorated and/or engraved with names or Torah texts. Kiddush cups are filled with wine or grape juice at the beginning of the Shabbat meal on Friday evening. Kiddush literally means sanctification, and by saying prayers and accompanying rituals, an ordinary meal becomes a religious act.
Kiddush cup as a gift for the Bar Mitzvah of JF, commissioned by his grandfather.
In the design of this cup, the initials JF are holding the chalice, like one holds a treasured object in ones hands. The letters are carrying, cherishing and protecting the belief, as JF does. If the cup is turned upside down during the week, then the initials JF stand on top of a mountain, which represents the ancestors, on whose inheritance the building continues. A fact that applies to each and every one of us.
This cup is 3D printed in wax, after which the wax model was cast in silver using the classic lost wax method.
Thanks to Horbach Idar-Oberstein for the craftsmanship with which they cast this difficult design.
The finishing of the cup and the patination are done by hand.
